Mini UAVs
With the appearance of the first drones in combat zones in Kosovo and in Israel, the aviation world is opening up new horizons. The ability of these pilotless aircraft to penetrate, discretely, deep into enemy territory to observe, or even destroy, targets represents a watershed in the story of aviation, both from the human and the technological perspective.

The effectiveness of these machines on the battlefield stimulated the aeronautical engineers to investigate further their concepts and uses: why not design even smaller machines, that just one person can control, and which can go and find out what is happening behind the next hill, beyond a copse, or a nearby building? Eventually, these drones, or Mini UAVs, could become sufficiently small and autonomous that they will be able to slip inside a building, or in and around trees, in order to seek out danger, or simply to survey a suspect, discretely and from afar.
